The Enugu Electricity Company (EEDC) has introduced a security barcode to check against fake bills and other forms of manipulations or electricity theft by customers.

This information was disclosed by the Head, Communications, of EEDC, Mr Emeka Ezeh, in an interview in Enugu on Sunday.

Ezeh said that the modified bill included features such as a summary of previous balance and last payment made by the customer, and a barcode, which is a security feature. He said that this was put in place in a bid to ensure enjoyable customer experience.

Ezeh also disclosed that it contained the names and phone numbers of the marketer in charge, and a pictorial representation of the customer’s meter reading, with some other important details.

“It also contains details of respective reconnection fees and other relevant information for the customer,” he said.

“For now, our customers receive notification alert on their phones, acknowledging payment of electricity bills made; and this comes at no cost to the customer.”

He then encouraged customers who were not yet enjoying the services to update their data via the Company’s website or at any of their customer service points.
