IPOB crisis: Jonathan advises Buhari to consult Ex-Presidents

IPOB- Former President Goodluck Jonathan has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to seek advice from former Presidents, serving Governors and the Chief Justice of Nigeria – by summoning a Council of State meeting – on how to handle the crisis in the South-East.

The former President, in a Facebook post, expressed his displeasure about the tension across the country, and condemned the threat to human life by several elements across the country.

He said, “The reports I have received about recent developments in the country lead me to appeal to all men of good will to use whatever influence they have to push for peaceful coexistence and restraint on all sides.

“Perhaps it is time for the Council of State to intervene and offer its wise counsel. Irrespective of whatever provocation, Nigerians must never turn on each other.

“Inasmuch as there may be the need to enforce order, there is a greater need to reinforce our humanity and treat Nigerian citizens humanely whether they are from the North or South.

Jonathan urged Nigerians to show love to one another to ensure that the country stands. He called for aggrieved parties to dialogue rather than resort to violence, urging them to exchange ideas instead of insults and threats.
