Jacob Zuma given until 30th November to defend himself against corruption charges

The President of South Africa, Jacob Zuma has been given until 30th November, 2017, to defend the corruption charges levelled against him.

Earlier this month, the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) dismissed an application by Zuma and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to appeal a High Court ruling that the 2009 decision to drop 18 corruption charges against him was irrational.

The charges levelled against the President circled around involvement in the country’s multi-billion Rand arms deal.

Spokesperson for the NPA, Luvuyo Mfaku, said that Zuma had until 30th November to make representations as to why the prosecuting authority should not charge him with corruption. He also gave a detailed timeline for Zuma’s possible prosecution.

Meanwhile, just a few days ago, President Zuma got honoured with a huge statue in Imo State, by Governor Rochas Okorocha.
