Newly appointed Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has expressed delight after joining the Premier League side.

The Portuguese born tactician was named the new Spurs manager earlier today – few hours after the club sacked Mauricio Pochettino on Tuesday.

Tottenham are currently 14th on the EPL table with 14 points after 12 matches, though, they are on course to reaching Champions League knockout stage so far.

Mourinho, while speaking after taking up his new challenge explained the quality of the squad, which also includes their academy attracted him to the job.

The Portuguese explained: “I am excited to be joining a club with such a great heritage and such passionate supporters. “The quality in both the squad and the academy excites me. Working with these players is what has attracted me.”

Mourinho was in charge at Manchester United for about two and a half years and won one Europa League title and the EFL Cup for them in his first season.

Although, the remainder of his stay at Old Trafford was more of pain than joy as both the players and the owners were no longer satisfied with his style of operation.

Meanwhile, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy said they appointed Mourinho due to his success in the Premier League and at the other clubs he has managed.

Levy said in his remarks: “In Jose, we have one of the most successful managers in football.

“He has a wealth of experience, can inspire teams and is a great tactician. He has won honours at every club he has coached. We believe he will bring energy and belief to the dressing room.”
