In connection with the series of politically-motivated cult killings in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, a former Commissioner for Special Duties in the State and the Chairman of a Transition Committee have been moved to Police Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The two men (names withheld) are indigenes of the Local Government Area. Earlier, they were sighted at the Department of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Police Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a top Police Officer said, “The two politicians have no business with SARS.
They are here on the request of special operatives dispatched from the Inspector-General of Police to arrest sponsors of the cult war in the Local Government.
“I work with SARS, but I don’t know why they are here. I was told operatives from the Force Headquarters, Abuja, kept the men here for security reasons. They have since been taken to Abuja.”
The Police Public Relations Officer of the State’s Police Command, Chukwu Ikechukwu, said that to his knowledge, the Akwa Ibom State Command did not arrest the men, and he was not aware if they were arrested by any other outfit in the Zone or in Abuja.
It was gathered that the invitation of the men by the police may not be unconnected with the cult killings which have claimed many lives in the Local Government.
