APC: We’ll not give up on Rivers

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated that it would not give up in fielding candidates for the next months elections in Rivers State.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Issa-Onilu, stated this while reacting to the Federal High Court ruling directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to accept the governorship candidate of the party, Mr. Tony’s Cole.

The Federal High Court presided over by Justice Kolawole Omotosho also ruled that INEC should not admit candidates from the party for the National and State Assembly positions.

But in his reaction to the ruling, the APC national publicity secretary said that the party would appeal the judgment with a view to redressing the judgment.

Onilu speaking on the judgment said, “We will appeal the judgment and l am sure we will get the necessary legal grounds to redress that.”

A High Court in Port Harcourt had also last year nullified the nomination of Mr Tonye Cole as the Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State on the ground that his nomination is a function of illegality and unconstitutional acts.

The Court presided over by Justice Chiwendu Nwogu also nullified the Rivers State APC Senatorial, House of Representatives and House of Assembly Primaries conducted on the premise of the illegal ward congresses. The High Court further nullified all the elections of Rivers APC Ward Executives, Local Government Executives and State Executive Committee that arose from the illegal ward congresses.
