Ambode absent at Lagos APC mega rally

The ongoing power tussle in the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), especially between Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, came to bear yesterday as the governor was absent at the party’s mega rally held in Ikorodu. Although the mega rally was attended by thousands of party leaders, members and candidates but some people were surprised about the absence of Ambode at the rally.

The governor was in Kano State with President Muhammadu Buhari for the APC presidential campaign. It would be recalled that Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday said it may impeach Governor Ambode and summoned the governor to appear before it within one week over his failure to formally present the 2019 Budget before the Assembly. The issue later generated protests as some protesters stormed Lagos State House of Assembly complex on Wednesday to condemned the impeachment plot. Speaking at the mega rally, Lagos State deputy governor, Dr. Oluranti Adebule, urged the electorate to vote for President Buhari, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other APC candidates in the February 16 and March 2 elections.

Her words: “We are here to preach the gospel of our party, which is about growth and development of Lagos. We have been governing the state in the last 20 years and you can all see the evidence of growth and development in the state. “We are here to present our governorship candidate, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr. Kadri Hamzat to you and I want to urge all you all to come out and vote for them on the Election Day. They are tested, trusted, reliable and sellable. I want to assure you that they will continue the development, which our party stands for.” Addressing the crowd, Sanwo-Olu promised to put in place a lot of infrastructure and social amenities in Ikorodu and its environs.

“We will construct Sulemain Faruk road and Ag-boyi-Ketu road. There are stadium in some places in Lagos. Ikorodu will have its own. Some people are saying that we are in bondage in Lagos but I want to tell you that we are not in bondage. Tell those lying that they do not have anything to say. “On February 16, we must all go out to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari and all our senatorial and House of Representative candidates. I urge you to come out on March 2 to vote for me and all our House of Assembly candidates,” he said. Also speaking, Hamzat urged the people to support APC for continuity of good governance at federal and state levels.

“For 16 years, PDP abandoned Ikorodu-Shagamu road but APC is now constructing the road. President Buhari is doing the road. So, we must all vote for Buhari and APC. We must support all our candidates for continuity. Don’t vote for a party that is lying to you,” he said. The party chairman, Alhaji Tunde Balogun, during the rally, presented APC’s flags to Sanwo-Olu and other party’s National and State Assemblies candidates in Lagos State.
